From West Newsmagazine: Several road and pedestrian/bicyclist projects are moving forward in Wildwood, including the construction of a new roundabout at Hwy. 109 and State Route BA South.
The $2.1 million project will realign Route BA South at Hwy. 109 and provide traffic calming at the intersection, said Rick Brown, director of public works. The roundabout is expected to improve safety and make turning movements easier for drivers, especially for those making a left turn from Hwy. 109 onto BA South.
Federal funding will offset costs to improve the intersection, Brown said.
The contract amount with H.R. Green is $252,560, but the scope of work can be increased in an amount not to exceed $265,190.
H.R. Green will perform construction phase services to include task management, preconstruction phase, construction phase and closeout phase.
Brown expects the project to have a six-month construction period beginning this spring.
Another road project underway is the engineering design of the Hwy. 100 J-turn improvement project.
A J-turn is an alternative to traditional roadway intersections on a four-lane highway. Instead of motorists crossing fast-moving lanes of traffic to turn left, drivers at a J-turn intersection turn right in the same direction as traffic, merge into the left lane and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel.
