From Mid Rivers Newsmagazine: O’Fallon is planning for the third phase of its Main Street Improvement Project. At the Nov. 21 meeting, the City Council introduced a bill that would approve plans for the Main Street Phase 3 improvement project and authorize acquisition of property. The bill will receive a vote for passage at the next council meeting on Dec. 19.
Improvement work would extend along Main Street from City Hall to just south of St. Joseph Avenue. Improvements would include intersection reconstruction at Third Street, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, street lighting, path installation, and widened sidewalks.
A traffic study was performed at the Third Street intersection and found that a roundabout would outperform a signalized intersection at this location. According to the study, the benefits of a roundabout would include added safety, emissions reduction and a higher level of service for traffic.
Federal and county funding has been secured for this project.
The plans for these improvements and for right of way and easement acquisition will be presented at the Dec. 5, Planning & Zoning Commission meeting.
