From KSDK: The St. Charles County Council voted Monday night to approve the final plan for a sprawling new subdivision and community improvement district for the area. It’s a move that authorizes a controversial development residents say will overwhelm local infrastructure, but officials argue it was legally unavoidable.
The council’s decision clears the way for Trailside Farms, a residential project located off Highway N, directly across from Wentzville South Middle School.
The development, situated on a plot of roughly 236 acres between St. Gianna Catholic Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church, is set to add approximately 470 homes to the area.
While the vote establishes a Community Improvement District and finalizes the plot, the project’s zoning roots trace back more than a decade. County officials noted that the subdivision’s zoning was originally approved in 2010. Despite the gap in time, legal counsel for the county advised that the original approval had not expired, compelling the council to allow the project to move forward.
Residents attending the meeting expressed frustration, arguing that the area cannot support the influx of new housing. Rose Zuk, a local resident, urged the council to prioritize road improvements before breaking ground.
