From St. Louis Business Journal: The Saint Louis Development Corporation’s (SLDC) Board of Directors approved giving $1 million to Annie Malone Children and Family Services Thursday. The money is to be used for building repairs at its more than 100-year-old building at 2612 Annie Malone Drive in north St. Louis.
Annie Malone announced on Tuesday that it would it would postpone until 2026 its annual Annie Malone May Day Parade, which has gone on for 115 years, citing economic concerns. The parade raised money for “shelter, mental health services and economic mobility opportunities for children and families facing crisis in St. Louis,” according to KSDK. But the organization faces financial troubles that extend past the parade, and is having trouble providing its services to children and families.
SLDC Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Deion Broxton said Friday that the SLDC board approving this grant just days after news broke about the parade was a “coincidence.”
