Painting and Decorating Foundation Names Winners in ‘Finishing Touch’ Competition

Tuesday (Nov. 5) night at its 41st annual Fellowship Banquet, the Painting and Decorating Foundation (PDF)  named the winners of its 37th annual ‘Finishing Touch Awards’.

PDF is an industry promotion and education foundation which is funded by under agreements between union contractors and the Carpenters and Painters unions. The Finishing Touch Awards were established to recognize high standards of job performance and organization,  technical excellence, and craftsmanship in painting, framing, and drywall taping.

Apprentice of the Year awards were also presented to one carpenter and one painter apprentice.

The awards were presented by Tom Finan, Construction Forum Education Foundation, who has presented the awards since their inception. Contest judges were Finan, Charles Bell, principal, Charles Bell Architect; John Buchholtz, apprentice instructor, Painters District Council 58; Randy Freese, retired CEO, Simon Painting; . John Gaal, retired director of workforce and training for the St. Louis – Kansas City Carpenters Regional Council; and Craig Hood, training director, Carpenters Regional Council.

The keynote speaker was David Eckstein, two-time National League All-Star shortstop and former leadoff hitter for the world champion St. Louis Cardinals
