From Mid Rivers Newsmagazine: Bryan Road in O’Fallon begins at West Terra Lane, just north of I-70, to its south terminus at Route 364 South Outer Road, where it becomes Winghaven Boulevard.
Traveling on Bryan Road south, a driver currently must cross intersections with traffic lights at I-70 (two separate entry/exit ramps with their own signals), Veterans Memorial Parkway, Mexico Road, Great Warrior Drive/Norwood Hills Drive, Feise Road, Route 364 (two separate entry/exit ramps with their own signals), and finally the intersection with Route 364 South Outer Road/Town Square Avenue.
All of those intersections are extremely congested already during morning and evening rush hours. The intersections at the Route 364 South Outer Road/Town Square Avenue, Feise Road and the new North Bryan Commercial development between Veterans Memorial and White Magnolia are going to be even busier as new commercial and apartment developments are built.
The city of O’Fallon knows improvements of some type will be needed. To foster efficiency with those improvements, the city decided to do a study of future needs for the entire Bryan Road corridor first, instead of tackling each intersection ad hoc.
In early fall 2023, O’Fallon retained a consultant to prepare a methodology and assumptions report, gather data, build traffic models and develop a memorandum detailing the results of the study.
“The study indicated strong consideration should be given to improving traffic operations at the Bryan Road and I-70 interchange as well as between Route 364 and Feise Road,” City Communications Director Tony Michalka said. “However, these intersections are not owned or maintained by O’Fallon and were not studied for future improvements. The study recommended future intersection improvements to intersections owned and maintained entirely or in part by O’Fallon.”
