The Masonry Institute of St. Louis will present a free educational seminar Wednesday, Oct. 28, aimed at helping building officials, designers and construction professionals better understand seismic and wind design requirements in building codes.
The program, “Seismic and Wind Requirements in the Code — What Do They Mean?”, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at The Masonry Centre, 1429 S. Big Bend Blvd. in St. Louis.
Ted Pruess, PE, FSEI, of TAP Engineering, will lead the presentation, which will focus on interpreting the symbols, terminology and equations used in building code provisions governing seismic and wind design.
Making Complex Code Requirements Easier to Understand
Seismic and wind design provisions can be challenging to interpret without a structural engineering background. The seminar will explain the principles behind these requirements and how they apply to masonry structures and other wall construction systems.
The presentation is designed to help code officials and construction professionals better understand the engineering concepts reflected in building codes and apply that knowledge when reviewing construction documents.
Free Program Offers Continuing Education Credit
The in-person seminar is free, with lunch provided by sponsor Raineri Building Materials. Vegetarian meals are available upon request.
Participants may earn 1.0 Masonry Institute professional development hour, 1.0 AIA Learning Unit in Health, Safety and Welfare (LU/HSW), or 0.1 ICC continuing education credit.
