From West Newsmagazine: The Manchester Board of Aldermen authorized additional due diligence work for potential salt storage relocation and public works facility upgrades at its Aug. 17 meeting.
Jennifer Kissinger from Navigate Building Solutions presented on the status of the current public works facilities, what items needed immediate fixing and how to best solve overarching issues. Parking and fleet storage were some of the top facility needs discovered through discussions with city staff, as well as salt storage containment and deferred maintenance.
After briefly speaking on these four points, Kissinger proposed an option to renovate existing facilities and relocate salt storage to Schroeder Park behind the tennis and basketball courts.
In order to move forward in the process, due diligence work must be conducted to ensure the site is capable of handling the expected operations. This includes a geotechnical investigation, site survey and consultation with a civil engineer from MSD for water quality management.
City Administrator Justin Klocke said there is no exact project timeline yet, but if the board continues with the selected concept he anticipates the project beginning in 2027. Alderman Megan Huether (Ward II) said she felt positive about doing the investigation and figuring out if this concept is feasible.
