HERA Hires Senior Staff and Opens New Office

HERA laboratory planners, an international laboratory planning firm, added a fourth office and new professional staff to its team. HERA is proud to welcome Mitsy Canto-Jacobs, AIA, a veteran in laboratory programming, planning, and design.
“Mitsy is already a valuable member of our team,” said Laurie Sperling, HERA Principal. “Her extensive laboratory background and knowledge adds depth as she joins other Science & Technology subject matter experts at the firm. Her experience with government, academic, and corporate clients is a real asset. We are very excited to have Mitsy as an integral part of HERA’s growth.”
She joins the firm as a Senior Laboratory Planner and Project Manager, and is charged with supporting projects for the National Institutes of Health and other government clients. She has been working across the country and internationally for over 30 years as an architect, and she specializes in projects that include biocontainment; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threat detection and responses; structural testing; and advanced metrology labs. In addition to developing advanced programs in the USA, Mitsy has developed expertise in working with low-resource clients in developing countries. Most recently, Mitsy led her own firm, WerkenPLLC, assembling A/E teams for laboratory projects here and abroad to meet demanding technical requirements.
Canto-Jacobs, a licensed architect in Maryland, Virginia, DC, and the Philippines, received two Master Degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Architecture and City Planning, an her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of the Philippines. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and certified in Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC).
Celebrating their 20th year in business in 2016, HERA is a laboratory planning firm with offices in St. Louis, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Bethesda, Maryland.
