From West Newsmagazine: Main Street in Wildwood will be getting longer despite the loss of two developments that would have contributed to the project.
The extension will take Main Street from its current terminus east of Crestview Drive to Eatherton Road. Civil Design, Inc. (CDI) will provide professional engineering services to complete the final design of the extension at a cost of $112,750. CDI also completed the preliminary design.
Both the city’s master plan and Town Center plan identify Main Street as the future central pedestrian-friendly corridor through Town Center.
“It’s an important project from the standpoint of our Town Center plan,” Joe Vujnich, director of planning, explained. “Also, from an economic development standpoint, we know that allowing traffic to have an alternative, or a new way, to access the downtown district of Town Center is a positive.”
Vujnich acknowledged that the Main Street extension is one of the items that caused significant delays for developers.
“From the perspective of the department, we hope that if we can pre-plan it and have it shovel-ready, that’ll put us in a position to help the next developer or developers but also potentially for grants in the future,” he said.
The extension of the existing Crestview Drive as Main Street will include on-street parking, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and other enhancements and is intended to create a vibrant, small town main street environment, according to city officials.
