From The Edwardsville Intelligencer: Two major downtown Edwardsville construction projects remain on schedule, with utility work largely complete on the North Main Street Water Main and Streetscape Project and more visible construction expected soon at Goshen Commons.
City Engineer David Sirko said both projects continue to move forward.
Construction began Jan. 5 on the $4.89 million North Main Street Water Main and Streetscape Project, which is partially funded through a $2.87 million state grant through the Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets Capital Program.
The project is replacing a more than 120-year-old water main along about a quarter-mile stretch of the southernmost section of North Main Street.
Sirko said most of the underground work on the North Main Street project has been completed.
“The water main is done, the sewer lining is done, and the main line has been completed,” Sirko said. “Now they still have the lateral work to do. They should be coming in the next few weeks to do that, so that we can try and make sure we keep moving along.”
Sidewalk work is also underway.
Sirko said the project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by late summer or early fall, weather permitting.
“As long as we keep the rain away,” he said.
While summer heat can slow productivity, Sirko said rainfall has a much greater impact on construction schedules.
