From Belleville News-Democrat: Up to 500 jobs could be created in the Hofbrauhaus, hotel, restaurant and sports complex planned for Illinois 15 across from the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, developers said Tuesday.

The combined value of the new developments could be worth up to $73 million.

Developers were accompanied by local civic leaders in a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday on the vacant land where all the development is planned.

Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert at groundbreaking.

“It’s official,” Mayor Mark Eckert said as he and others turned over shovels of dirt. He said it was the culmination of three years of planning.

“I think it’s a great day for Belleville,” said Chuck Keller Sr., of Effingham. He and his sons are developing the Hofbrauhaus and hotel project valued at $50 million to $60 million.

The city has agreed to give tax incentives worth $15.69 million to the Hofbrauhaus and hotel complex but has not yet announced details of incentives offered to Kansas City-based Global Sports International, which wants to build 11 soccer fields and a clubhouse.

Chane Keller, one of Chuck Keller’s sons, said up to 400 jobs could be created on their side of the development. And David Thorman, the developer representing Global Sports International, said 100 jobs could be created in the sports complex valued at $12 million to $13 million.
