Construction Could Soon Start on the AC Hotel in Clayton

From CityScene STL: The 12-story, 207 room AC Hotel by Marriott at 227 South Central site in Downtown Clayton is still moving forward.
Koplar Properties, alongside Bozeman Montana-based Homebase Partners, could begin construction on the AC Hotel within the next month or two. This comes as the AC Hotel in the Central West End wraps up construction ahead of welcoming its first guests in December. Concord Hospitality, of North Carolina, was also involved in the AC Central West End hotel project.
This project received all necessary approvals from the City of Clayton in 2019 with the last mention of the project being in March of that year when Clayton approved of the zoning request for the property. Since then, the nation went through a pandemic, economic downturn, federal election, inflation, and local election. All of these reshaped the development world as well as the spending habits of consumers. For Clayton though, projects continue to roll ahead despite Centene’s cancellation of future phases of their development. Projects such as US Capital Development’s “Forsyth Pointe” and Midas Hospitality’s Residence Inn hotel on Forsyth are two examples of the ongoing development in Downtown Clayton with their cranes being visible from many vantage points.
Other projects in the pipeline for Downtown Clayton include “Bemiston Place”, a 240-unit apartment project on half a block near Maryland and Bemiston Avenue. That project includes the renovation and preservation of the Shanley Building. The only other projects publicly planned and underway are the the re-skins of the Centene building on Carondelet Avenue and the PNC Bank/M1 Bank Building on Forsyth. Additional projects are in the works but not yet revealed.
