From First Alert 4:  Jamie Bonfiglio is bringing a new look to the crosswalks surrounding Loretta Hall Park.

This is Bonfiglio’s first mural on the pavement. The mural is part of a larger transformation happening in the Carr Square neighborhood through a Choice Neighborhoods program.

“People tend to slow down when they see the colors, which makes it a little bit safer,” Jamie said.

According to Thomas Nagel of the Community Development Administration, even more murals, including several sculptures, are coming to the park as part of a larger project in Carr Square that includes hundreds of units of affordable housing.

“We’re reconnecting the fabric of the city with high-quality affordable housing,” Nagel said.

The Community Development Administration recently announced a series of federally funded neighborhood transformation grants awarded to projects around the city. One award for more than $830,000 will complete the ongoing new construction at the nearby Preservation Square development.

“We’re entering the final phase of it, renovating these buildings behind us,” Nagel said.

The project will create more than 130 apartments and townhomes to complement hundreds of newly built buildings just minutes north of downtown.
