What do you do in your profession?

My main duties include supporting our teams as they build great projects for great people while solving complicated problems. Additionally, I work on a team who develops strategy for the company as we continue to evolve to adapt to the social, physical, and economic conditions of our community, hoping to help make it better. To get here, though, I spent 15 years as a project engineer and manager.

What are your dream career and dream tasks to work on?

I am fortunate to be living a bit of a dream. While construction is hard, it’s amazing to know the impact it has on our community. I have gotten to build some pretty awesome projects for some of the greatest institutions in the St. Louis region, and it’s hard to top that.

Advice for someone who wants to do the same job or career as you.

As my parents taught me, hard work is never wasted. No matter where you are starting, work hard and be open-minded to advice and direction provided by your peers and those with more experience. St. Louis’ depth of skilled tradespeople is a resource any emerging builder can tap for knowledge, if you are willing to listen.

If you were to go back and give advice to yourself at age 16, what would it be?

Be comfortable not knowing; take advantage of as many free educational opportunities as you can possibly fit into your schedule; by your mid-30s, you will look back at these struggles and appreciate them for the character they will bring you; cut out toxicity, as it doesn’t help either party; sit up straight and eat your vegetables.
