BJC Chooses McCarthy to Lead DB Team on Next Phase of Barnes-Jewish Campus Renewal

BJC announced that a team led by McCarthy will lead the design-build team that will begin develop the program for Phase 2 of the Campus Renewal at Barnes-Jewish Hospital project.
The St. Louis Business Journal reported on Dec. 20 that BJC Healthcare has applied for a $1.8 million demolition permit to raze Queeny Tower The 17-story building, named for benefactor Edgar Monsanto Queeny, opened in 1965.
June Fowler, senior vice president of BJC Healthcare, issued the following statement:
“BJC HealthCare has engaged McCarthy to lead a design-build team that will explore the next phase of Campus Renewal at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, providing pre-design and pre-construction services. McCarthy has assembled a team with a strong St. Louis presence and experience with BJC, partnering with CannonDesign, architecture; BR+A, engineering; Thornton Tomasetti, structural engineering; and Castle, civil engineering.
“This phase of Campus Renewal entails the design and eventual construction of a hospital bed tower on the northeast corner of Barnes-Jewish Plaza and Kingshighway Boulevard.Design for the tower will progress through 2020. A timeline for construction has not yet been set.

“BJC’s Campus Renewal is a long-term project to transform the medical campus by renovating and building new inpatient and support facilities that are more patient focused and improve operational efficiencies.
“Campus Renewal phase 1 was completed in early 2018 and included Parkview Tower and the St. Louis Children’s Hospital expansion.”
