Construction Forum has named Anna Marie Wehr to lead business development and communications as the organization expands its workforce development and regional economic growth initiatives.
Wehr brings experience in business development, marketing, communications and community engagement, including roles at Enterprise Bank & Trust and leadership in the Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce.
Her appointment comes as the Forum, now in its 13th year, seeks to strengthen connections among employers, educators, workforce organizations and other stakeholders in the St. Louis region’s built environment.
“Anna Marie brings a combination of business experience, community relationships and communications skills that fits where we’re headed,” said Tom Finan, the Forum’s executive director and co-founder. “We’ve spent a lot of years bringing people together to talk about the challenges facing our industry and our region. Increasingly, our focus is on what we can accomplish together.”
Background in Business and Community Leadership
Wehr spent approximately a decade with Enterprise Bank & Trust in client advocacy and client experience roles, building business relationships and supporting customer engagement.
She previously served as director of development for the Megan Meier Foundation and held positions in sales, marketing and organizational development. She earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Coe College.
Wehr has served on the Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce board of directors since 2018, including a term as board president in 2021. She received the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 2022.
Her business and community experience will support the Forum’s efforts to broaden participation in its programs and strengthen relationships across the region.
Connecting Information, People and Programs
One of Wehr’s initial priorities will be helping the Forum improve how it manages and uses its extensive network of contacts and relationships.
The organization is developing a digital hub to connect information currently maintained in separate systems, including its newsletter database, LinkedIn network and event registration records.
The goal is to make that information more useful, not simply create a larger database.
With thousands of contacts across construction, design, engineering, education, government and economic development, the Forum hopes to better identify shared interests, connect organizations working on related issues and track participation and outcomes.
Supporting Expanded Workforce Efforts
Alongside its longstanding role in industry communications and convening, the Forum has taken on a more direct role in workforce development.
Its registered apprenticeship programs in surveying and materials testing, career outreach initiatives and participation in regional workforce efforts have increased the need for employer engagement, coordination and communications.
Wehr will work with Forum staff and leadership to support those programs, develop business relationships, strengthen sponsorships and communicate the work of the organization and its partners.
Her arrival also comes as the Forum prepares for a leadership transition and builds the organizational capacity to sustain its expanding programs.
“There’s no shortage of good work being done around workforce and economic development in St. Louis,” Finan said. “The challenge is connecting those efforts in ways that produce results. We’re looking forward to having Anna Marie help us do that.”
