From St. Louis Business Journal: Anheuser-Busch InBev is seeking a $1.2 million personal property tax abatement in exchange for making an investment at its Soulard plant.
A-B said it is planning a $52 million investment, including $41 million in manufacturing property purchases, to modernize equipment and enhance cleaner and more efficient manufacturing practices. The company said it will spend another $42 million to $72 million on leased equipment and services.
It said the project will reduce the brewery’s reliance on natural gas.
In exchange, the city of St. Louis is considering abating personal property taxes on the equipment purchases, over 10 years. A board bill from Alderwoman Cara Spencer, who represents the area, says the abatement is worth $1.2 million.
Information from St. Louis Development Corp., the nonprofit city development agency, says it will aid retention of 1,900 local jobs.
A Board of Aldermen committee, Housing, Urban Development and Zoning, on Tuesday advanced the legislation to the full Board of Aldermen.
