From KSDK: A major investment is underway in Illinois aimed at meeting a growing demand for healthcare in the Metro East.
St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL is expanding its campus in a big way with a multi-million-dollar project.
Chris Klay, President and CEO of the Southern Illinois market of Hospital Sisters Health System, said the expansion will improve access, efficiency and patient care for years to come.
“Really at the at the heart of this, our goal is to keep care local,” he said.
St. Elizabeth’s Hospital has been staying true to that goal since moving to O’Fallon from Belleville in 2017, according to Klay. Now, nearly a decade later, he said the growth has been rapid.
“The work that’s happening today here at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is purely focused on increasing our capacity and our ability to be more efficient in serving the patients who are choosing to receive healthcare with us,” he said.
Klay said the need for expansion has been building for years with planning really ramping up after the COVID-19 pandemic, as leaders recognized space and capacity challenges, specifically with their emergency room visits doubling.
